Oslo are Norwegian champions after a difficult win against Bergen.

The result illustrates very well the game we have seen today in Ekeberg. After the 40 first minutes, the score was still 0-0 and none of the two teams had shown extraordinary rugby. However a trend started to emerge.

With 7 penalties for Oslo at half time against 4 for Bergen, Bergen's weak point was their lack of discipline. The biggest trend however was in favour to Bergen with an obvious superiority in conquest. Oslo could not hold the Bergen scrum and Bergen won many balls in lineouts and rucks. Often under pressure, Oslo did not manage to build a game.

The second half only confirmed the first with a clear domination of Bergen on scrums and lineouts. Nonetheless, Bergen never really managed to be a real threat to Oslo. Thanks to an efficient defence, Bergen were kept away from the dangerous zone.

Oslo benefited from the indiscipline of Bergen. Too many times, 15 times to be exact (vs 7 against Oslo), Bergen were penalized, and mostly in rucks. Two kicks were enough for the victory, and our conclusion is that Oslo has been lucky to win today, but it does does not take away the legitimacy of Oslo victory.

Oslo RK won and are the 2011 champions.

Congratulations.

Is it only me or is the title of this match report a bit strange?

I did not watch the game, but from the score and the rest of the report I get the impression that ORK won the game thanks to a strong defence and the ability to convert opportunities into points, not because of luck.

(It might be luck that Mr Harrington and Mr Fyri's suggested changes to the point system in rugby were not implemented before the final, though...)
