Thursday, 16 June 2011 21:00

kongepokal rugbyHans Majestet Kongens Pokal is a prestigious Norwegian trophy awarded by the king to the winning participant or team for several sports National championship.

The first royal trophy was awarded by King Oscar II in 1879.

In 2011, Kongepokal will also be given by the Royal Court to the Men winning rugby team at the NM 7s.

We have been told that the Women NM 7s would also get the Kongepokal if more than 8 teams or clubs are participating. This will not be the case for 2011, so maybe for 2012.

Yes! It will increase the motivation level. Winning this trophy in Norway is regarded a great honour! But one should ask why this trophy is only given for winning the 7's?

Because you need a minimum of team which enters the competition, and I think it is about 8 teams.

But don't know exactly the rules, you should know that better than me Franny, aren't you Norwegian?

Kongepokalen can only be given out in one competition a year for each særforbund (i.e. either NM 7's or 15's or 10's) for each federation and this competition has to include more than 8 teams. If there is significant difference to the different competitions then there can be given out several Kongepokal from each særforbund, but this would not apply for rugby (in athletics they only give out one kongepokal for senior men and one for women even though arguably the sports that are present are more different than what 7's and 15's is).

We can have more 'kongepokaler' in NRF if there's an NM for the wheelchair rugby and they're at least 8 teams. But these prices has to be applied for before October 1st each year.
